The Western Cape Network on Violence Against Women was established as Co-ordinated Action for Battered Women (CABW) in 1989. Organisations providing services to survivors of rape and domestic violence met every month to
- share information
- learn from one another
- identify training needs
- produce joint publications
- lobby against violence towards women.
The WCNOVAW has a vision of gender equality in a non violent society. The organisation’s mission is to be a unified, effective network and support organisation that leads and coordinates initiatives toward the prevention and eradication of all forms of violence against women in the private and public spheres through undertaking capacity building with service providers and linking concerned groups of women to relevant government structures to effect change.
The Network’s mission is to be a strong united body which coordinates and integrates organisations and individuals through advocacy, public awareness, training and support with a developmental approach in order to progressively realise women in the Western Cape’s rights to a life free from all forms of violence.
